Urban landscape
Damen Avenue
Oil on canvas
36" h by 48" w
2019

This image was inspired by the architecture on Damen Avenue between North and Armitage in Chicago. It was painted in preparation for my solo exhibition at Firecat Gallery in May, 2019. The landscape is changing via gentrification. I saw traditional car repair shops that had existed for generations juxtaposed by hip new designer boutiques and nail shops. Many people have mentioned that this work reminds me of Edward Hopper's, and that's fine with me. I see that as a compliment.
