This painting conveys calm energy through its horizontal ribbons of color and light. The water sparkles with various shades of turquoise, violet and blue. The vaporous clouds appear to be moving through veils of color made by transparent glazes. The painting's horizontal composition enhances these effects. I made the painting in the summertime, and was moved to convey the feeling of warm breezes, and the smell of the sea salt. I am inspired by the Hudson River painters of the United States. The Hudson River School was a mid-19th century American art movement embodied by a group of landscape painters whose aesthetic vision was influenced by Romanticism.
