I am drawn to long diagonal shadows that break over weathered walls during the golden hour. I took a walk at sunset when we were staying with my Portuguese family in Olhao, a small fishing village in the Algarve. I built up the paint with Impressionistic brushstrokes. The colors of the cloth on the laundry line contrast with the shadows in the doorways. I hope that viewers resonate with the theme of exploration---as one wanders around back alleys that twist and turn.
